XC90 First Edition sold out

The Volvo XC90 First Edition was sold out in just 47 hours after going on sale online in some international markets. The XC90 First Edition was a limited-edition variant created to celebrate the launch of Volvo’s new SUV.

A total of 1927 individually numbered cars were made available for sale globally via Volvo’s website. Most of the cars were reserved within one hour and at the sale's peak, seven cars were sold every minute. It was the first Volvo car to be sold exclusively online.

“The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world premiere last week,” said Volvo’s sales and marketing chief Alain Visser.

The online-only sale could prove to be a significant step forward in the way Volvo sells its cars – the company is keen to move towards more digitised sales methods.

“We are creating an online ecosystem that simplifies the process of shopping for, buying and owning a Volvo,” said Visser. “We also see the introduction of the new XC90 as the perfect platform for introducing a new, outstanding customer experience, which we are rolling out globally.”

The XC90 First Edition is finished in Onyx Black paint-shade with numbered tread plates and a special badge on the tailgate. The SUV rides on eight-spoke, 21-inch wheels. The interior features Nappa leather seats in amber, a charcoal leather dashboard and walnut inlays.

Opel presents Karl, a new city car due in 2015

The German manufacturer announced it will launch a new five-door, entry-level city car next summer. Endearingly, the model is named Karl after one of founder Adam Opel's sons.
The Opel Karl will join the Corsa and the Adam in the German brand's family of city cars. With a length of just 3.68m (12ft), the Karl will be more compact than the Corsa and will represent the brand's new entry-level offering.
The name Karl was chosen as a tribute to one of the sons of the brand's founder Adam Opel, who worked with his brothers Wilhelm and Friedrich to bring the company into the automobile business in 1898. But while the actual son was named Carl, the brand decided to swap first initial to go with a name that looks more German.
"Karl is a short, snappy and catchy name that represents Opel brand values: German, emotional and approachable," said Tina Müller, chief marketing officer at Opel.

Suzuki Gixxer 155 to be launched in India on September 9

Suzuki has officially confirmed that the Gixxer 155 will hit showrooms in India on September 9. If you recollect, the company has already started accepting bookings and has also revealed prices on its website. The on-road price for the Suzuki Gixxer 155 in Mumbai is Rs 84,344.
The Gixxer carries a 155cc engine which makes 14.8PS of power and 14Nm of torque. The engine bears Suzuki's latest technology, SEP, which the company claims allows the Gixxer to deliver good performance along with decent fuel efficiency.
While no numbers have been quoted yet, expect the Gixxer to boast a mileage of around 60kmpl. The bike comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Suzuki's Gixxer 155 is one of the more handsome motorcycle designs we have seen in a long time. The street fighter trend started with the FZ series and others including Honda were quick to adopt it. The Gixxer carries a chunky end can, wide tyres and all-digital meters.

KTM RC 390, RC 200 to be launched in India on September 9

We've just got news that the KTM RC 390 and its little sibling the KTM RC 200 will be launched in Pune on September 9. Both the RC 390 and the RC 200 will feature the same single-cylinder, liquid cooled 375cc and 200cc four-stroke engines as their Duke counterparts, churning out 43PS and 25PS, respectively.
While those figures are the same as those of the 390 Duke, the devil is in the details and apart from the obvious fairing and the clip-on handlebars, the RC 390 also features a sharper steering angle that should make the already sharp steering, razor sharp.
Other significant changes will include a new 9.5-litre steel fuel tank specifically developed for the RC as well as revised foot pegs and controls for steeper cornering angles.
Both bikes are also slightly taller than their naked counterparts with better ground clearance and taller seat heights. All the better for going faster around corners at a racetrack - we can't wait. Shumi has already taken the 390 Duke to one and we can't wait to take these two out there either.
